The Business of Dentistry:
Marlise De Vos qualified in 1993 at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, as a dentist and
soon after came over to work in the UK. Having worked mainly in a NHS- practice for 6 years
as an associate, she was very keen in buying a practice and running a business within her
own skill set. In 1999 she bought her current Cambridge practice and named it The Gables
Dental Practice.
The Practice was first established in 1967. When she bought the practice, it only had 2
surgeries, and gradually over the years has been developed into a 6-surgery practice.
Her main dental interest is in restorative dentistry, including crowns and bridge work, but
especially implantology, having completed her Certificate in Implantology at Eastman’s
dental school, London in 2009.
She has also recently achieved her MA in Dental Education at Bedfordshire University in
2015 which has helped her to develop and enhance her skills as a dental trainer. She
supports and oversee newly qualified dentists, (Foundation Dentists) at her Practice on
yearly contracts. She has also recently opened The Gables Learning Centre, at The
Practice, to encourage further training.
She is a great believer in change and embracing new ideas and technology where needed.
Her Practice motto is: “YOU ARE YOUR SMILE”, and with this in mind- is a firm believer
that people’s self- esteem, in all aspects of life, is greatly enhanced by their positive
confident healthy smile.
